West Kootenay Nav-CARE

Provider: Kootenay Social Support Society

Free one-to-one volunteer support that helps adults with health or quality-of-life concerns connect with local resources and community activities.

Nav-CARE is a free community-based program for adults living with chronic illness, social isolation, increased frailty or other quality-of-life concerns. Specially trained volunteer navigators provide practical, emotional and social support, help clients find local resources and activities, and offer consistent one-to-one companionship. No referral from a doctor or other professional is needed; clients and families can contact the program directly. Nav-CARE is not healthcare-system navigation. Contact the Nelson coordinator for service in this area. The provider says its broader service area includes Salmo, Nelson, Kaslo, the north Kootenay Lake area, the Slocan Valley, Nakusp, the Arrow Lakes valley, Castlegar and places between them.
