Nelson Fire and Rescue Service responds to fires, medical first-response calls, motor vehicle incidents, hazardous-material incidents, confined-space incidents, rope and surface-water rescues, and vehicle extrications. Its public education and prevention activities include FireSmart information, school programs, fire-safety planning, extinguisher training, smoke alarm support and fire hall tours. The Regional District of Central Kootenay identifies Mountain Station as a community where fire response is provided by Nelson Fire Rescue. Call 911 in an emergency.
